Alastrina is one of the characters in my book/game/hybrid thing; she’s the priestess main character who finds herself very much out of her element on her quest to save the world.

What is the last thing you learned?

“The last thing I learned? I don’t know that I’d have a last thing I could point at; this whole experience has been so out of my element, you might say that I’ve mostly learned that I didn’t know what I was in for. Although in fairness I am continuing to learn that lesson..”

“When I started out, I.. well, I don’t know what I was expecting, but I did want to make a difference in the world. The Cellestopian Order has its daily flow, and one grows to ease into their role, mostly because it changes very little from day to day. Which really does help you reflect on the higher truths, to be certain.. only, that may be missing something else important. When we shut the door on the outside, it doesn’t mean that the outside goes away, just that we don’t seem to mind it as much. So, one day I remembered that, I suppose. That there was more to the life of others around us, and that by shutting them out of mind, in a real way I was shutting myself off from the bigger issues.”

“Of course, if you’ve been raised in an isolated order where everything is maintained, you don’t exactly have a lot of.. well, flexibility, I suppose. My friends are much better at that than I am. Maybe too flexible on some points, but they listen fairly well when I suggest that stealing eggs from a henhouse is not the right thing to do. I am realizing that those who grew up in the world outside of the temple city have had to be flexible because very little in their view has been neat and tidy. So, they are much better adapted to a world gone a bit.. messy.. than I might be. But I am willing to learn.”

“I don’t normally get to rattle on like this. Flonk usually notices when I get thinky, and he tries to snap me out of it. I think he’s right to; if you’re in your own head too much, you start building up walls to the outside world again and retreat into that chamber. Still, it is nice to escape to that at least for a moment, if nothing else but to remind you of who you are and what your purpose is. Or.. at least it gives you a chance to think about what your purpose might be. I suppose none of us actually know that inside of our heads, and maybe its something we’re supposed to find.”
