Daily writing prompt
What’s something most people don’t understand?

“Faith. If it was easy to understand, then the faithful would all have attained enlightenment already. Since my Order is still here and, well, they tried to teach me their ways, I suppose that means nobody really understands what it means enough to be done trying to understand it.”

(Alastrina is the main protagonist of the Also-Rans, who happens to be a cleric. Which are surprisingly fun to make a main character in an RPG, actually)

“When I lived in the temple, I used to believe there was only one way of faith, mostly because that is how we lived it. You’d wake up, you’d start your devotions, and, that was your day. Obviously when you’re in prayers, but even when you are sweeping the temple floors or weeding the gardens, there is still the why you’re doing it. Well not actually the why, because, well, you don’t have to think about why. When acts of faith are all you do, I suppose the faith ends up just being implied. For everything, really.”

“So when I set out to see the world, well, the world outside Cellestopia, anyway, I guess I carried that. If everything I did inside the temple was an act of faith, would it really be any different outside? Could I truly live my path? There were certainly… challenges.. to that, but I would like to think that I did. Though I suppose I can’t actually know that, can I? If I wasn’t aware that I was living my faith in a holy citadel, then how would I know if I could outside of it?”

“I suppose that’s why I assume everybody else does not understand it either. If those who do know it cannot explain it, and those who think they know it, think they might not know it, then.. well, how can anybody really understand it?”

(Got a character of yours with some self doubt? Share your story too, that’s the fun of this!)

    1. Thank you! I want to do the daily prompts too, but switching characters on them is better writing warm up for me than me just going on about how smart I think I am. If I can harvest a story beat and engage with the platform, that’s a win!
