Daily writing prompt
What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?

“Surviving every day makes me happy. Also eating. Not getting stomped on is a bonus, too. If Maslow studied monster society instead of humans, his job would have been a lot easier on him than wondering about all that self fulfillment crap.”

(Flonk is a monster with a very narrow view on how things are for him and his. He does have friends, well, allies, well, people he gets to generally stand behind when there’s trouble, so maybe there’s hope for him figuring out all 5 things).

“I get it. If you grow up on the top of the food chain, or pecking order, or whatever it is that you measure your likely-to-be-horribly-killed probability on, then you might tap your claw on your chin and wonder how you might broaden your spiritual connection or have flush toilets or whatever it is you think you need to feel complete. In my experience, having most if not all of your important organs and juices on the inside of your carapace is about as complete as you get to hope for in life. Not that having flush toilets is a bad thing exactly, but when becoming somebody else’s stool is a real possibility for you, where your crap goes is a lot less pressing than where you go to not become crap, know what I mean?”

“Ok, so, that’s maybe ? Don’t become a turd. You sure we gotta get to 5?”

“Uhhh, oh, I know. You know what really deep down makes me happy? Having friends. People I can rely on to accept who I am, who can overlook the fact that I’m considered kill on sight for most NPCs, and even stick up for me when they’re handing out [kill 10 flamoggat] quests to would-be adventurers. Only, when I say that part out loud, they usually give me annoyed or disgusted looks, so I don’t actually say that part out loud. I dunno how better to put that though. If you don’t actually have more than yourself to watch your back, then it takes a lot of getting used to that there’s actually others who kinda want to do that for you. And not just because they’re looking for a good spot to shove an axe into, but.. I dunno why they’d want to do that, to be honest.”

“Maybe that last one doesn’t make me happy, just kinda weirds me out a little. Like, am I supposed to trust you? You seem like you don’t want to actually kill me to complete a quest for some green socks or whatever, so, uhhhh, what now?”

(Flonk is still figuring life out. Want to read more about his thoughts on life and society? You can! Or maybe you want to check out what the game/book I’m working on? You can do that too! Or.. I dunno, maybe you want to hang out and not insert axes into each other’s spines, in the comments?)

    1. Coffee and petting the cat makes me happy, but I can’t enjoy those things when I’m dead, so, gotta keep priorities in order, y’know?
