Pox is a fairy, and like her entire race, is annoying. Small woodland sprites like her could be innocently painting dew onto flowers and turning leaves the colors of the fall, but when there’s an opportunity to glue a squirrel to a goblin’s backside or pelt apple picking children with walnuts, well, they seldom pass that up. Dew painting and leaf dying can wait! Maybe its a thing with their race being innately tough against weapons or claws that they forget that not everybody enjoys physical assault, but fairies are incredibly irritating, and this one is no exception.
“Pox not exception? What Pox not take? Or maybe Pox no get birdbaby roundshell thingies? Pox can get, yesyes? Pox get manymany, they fun go squipsplat! Heehee!”
Its not quite clear what history Pox had with The Hero. At one point, he and his allies recruited her from the magical glade her kind calls home. Then, some time later, they ditched her in her sleep. Was it something she did? Pox can’t fully answer that. Was it something she said? She says everything, and at great speed (and volume); it would be hard to narrow it down to one or two comments. Was it something about her personality that simply didn’t gel? Probably. We may never know it it was days, weeks or even hours between meeting her and sneaking off under the cover of darkness, but one thing is clear: They didn’t want her around. Actually, two things are clear: It was hours.
“Pox very good at hideseek, Spikehair Bigsword say go count lots and lots and find secretsecret spot be hush no giggle, then friends come lookfind Pox clever hidespot.
Pox much good not get found manymany days!”
The reason Alastrina and Flonk don’t repeat the same trick is because Alastrina couldn’t do that to another soul – but also because having a hyperactive, invulnerable winged toddler on your side has some advantages. Namely that if you aim her at someone or something that needs a face full of sugar crazed, aggressively playful fairy, she will enthusiastically play along. The downside is all the times they forget to aim her. Or when she forgets what she was supposed to be doing and gets a notion. Or she gets bored. Really anything can happen when a fairy is under worked. Even her friends don’t fully understand what she is capable of, so she tends to be more the wild card than the ace.
“Pox no like Flatking Stabbyhead picture game. Boring county shapey cards, manymany too many and colorful people cards funny hats no smile.
Can Pox play tag instead? You it!”
Given her native irritation skills and ability to take hits just to come back cheerfully giggling, Pox is the party tank. It may not be elegant or even dignified to hide behind a fairy in combat, but being on the receiving end of maniacal, ear piercing shrieks and her tendency to bash headlong into foes, nobody comes away from a fight with Pox with any sense of decorum.
